Aim & Objectives
The aim is to establish a unique and sustainable network of multidisciplinary stakeholders (scientists and policy-makers) to facilitate and guide the identification and greater understanding of determinants of life course PABs and to translate this knowledge into user friendly outputs which assist policy makers and practitioners to achieve more effective health promoting settings. Capacity building and research co-ordination objectives are identified.
Capacity Building Objectives
- To create, grow & sustain a network of multidisciplinary stakeholders (scientists & policy-makers) in partnership with existing relevant networks & organisations (WG1).
- To establish a Knowledge Transfer Platform which will exploit and translate evidence, expertise and potentials regarding the determinants of PABs into user friendly outputs which assist policy makers and practitioners to achieve more effective health promoting settings (WG1-4).
- To create a Pan-European research network involving Young Researchers and Early Career Investigators and provide opportunities to such individuals to contribute to leadership roles within the network, thus building capacity for the future and increasing integration into the European Research Area (WG1).
- To foster knowledge exchange within and outside of the network & subsequently define & map the future research harmonisation & implementation strategy (WG1).
- Provide scientifically rigorous & evidence based Training Schools & Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSM) regarding knowledge exchange; consensus methodologies; measurement of determinants; data linkage, integration, harmonisation & analysis & end user friendly knowledge integration into policy & intervention design (WG1-4).
Research Co-ordination Objectives
- To articulate a Best Evidence Statement (BESt) and a new European Physical Activity Determinants (EN-PAD) framework regarding the key setting specific individual and environmental determinants of physical activity behaviours (PABs) that should be prioritised and targeted within research, public policies and interventions (WG2).
- To formulate setting specific guidelines on how the key determinants can be modified and how this knowledge can be addressed in public policies and interventions (WG2).
- To develop a valid PABs determinant profile measurement toolkit that optimally predicts PABs across gender, life course and socio-economic groups and in different settings (WG3).
- To provide proof of concept for the harmonisation and analysis of future European cross-sectional and longitudinal data collection which involves objectively measured PABs and their associated determinants (WG4).
