Evidence Translation - Framework, Consensus and Guidelines
Objective
To prepare consensus statements and guidelines regarding key determinants of Physical Activity Behaviours (PABs) and their prioritisation and utilisation within public policies and interventions.
Deliverables
- D2.1. Consensus, concept mapping and best evidence statement (BESt) methodologies (DE-PASS Training School 1).
- D2.2. Best evidence knowledge translation to physical activity behaviour intervention and policy design (DE-PASS Training School 4).
- D2.3. Provide a new and updated EuropeaN Physical Activity Determinants (EN-PAD) consensus framework (Publication).
- D2.4. To formulate European specific guidelines on how the five highest ranked setting specific determinants can be modified and thus translated into effective public policies and interventions (Report).
- D2.5. Prepare Best Evidence Statement of high quality research on the determinants of physical activity behaviours (PABs) (Publication).
- D2.6. Proof of Concept for mHealth protoype app for individual PABs determinant profiling, health risk and behaviour change (Report).
WG Descriptor
WG2 Evidence Translation – Framework, Consensus and Guidelines – Multi-disciplinary expertise within and outside the DE-PASS Action and published convincing evidence of high quality will be used to achieve this objective. A Best Evidence Statement (BESt) regarding the key setting specific (e.g. family, home and School) and life course determinants of PABs that should be prioritised and targeted within public policies and interventions will be articulated. A consensus committee will confirm the quality and strength of evidence to be included, cross-sectional, longitudinal and intervention evidence derived from the objective measurement of PABs will be prioritised. Both positive and negative findings will be considered. Using similar criteria, the statement will also include a section dedicated to identifying new candidate determinants which should be placed on a future research agenda.
The BESt will ensure that all outputs from DE-PASS are framed by the current state of the art. Due to the extensive international and global multi-disciplinary reach of the Action (30+ countries; 50+ institutions; 150+ scientists and policy makers), and the use of online concept and consensus mapping software, it will be possible to:
- Develop the new EN-PAD framework;
- Achieve a definitive consensus regarding the key setting specific determinants of PABs that should be prioritised and targeted within public policies and interventions;
- Formulate setting specific guidelines on how the highest ranked determinants can be modified and how this knowledge can be addressed in public policies and interventions.
Evidence based opening statements/factors relevant to the three tasks will be developed and circulated via a concept mapping software platform to targeted experts. A ranking of the determinants based on modifiability, feasibility to modify via public policy and intervention, strength of association with behaviour and expected population level effect of exposure to the determinant will be made. Trends in the grouping and ranking of expert views will be statistically analysed and subsequently various clustering and ranking of factors will be identified. These results will inform all DE-PASS deliverables and also provide the proof of concept (POC) for a mHealth app which will be promoted widely among relevant SMEs.
